President Obama had been selected as the winner of the Nobel peace prize on 9th October, 2009. Well, according to the New York Times, the Nobel committee announced in Oslo that it has awarded the annual prize to the president “for his extraordinary efforts he has put on to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between the people”. It was truly a stunning surprise as he has received one of his first highest awards given internationally (Or intentionally)?? So now people can hope for a better future as Mr. Obama has captured the world’s attention. Obama’s diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so but on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the population. While Obama was honored with the award, he was humbled to be selected by the committee; well definitely he would be, as it is his first highest award. The president’s name had been mentioned in speculation before achieving this award but many Nobel watchers disagreed in this regard and reviewed that it is too early to award the president. According to the committee, he has created a new climate in international politics. It is commendable that president Obama took such a great initiative to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people. Obama should keep trying because it seems very difficult to turn around the percentage of our country which has already been created by Bush and others. |
