Here's another movie that got a sneak peek, of sorts, at the Comic Con – Sherlock Holmes. Apparently the good folks from the movie (as well as those involved the behind scenes work) were there and blurted out a few spoilers. Well, as least one. For one thing, Robert Downey Jr. and co. are quite pleased with this take on the famous detective. As you know, a lot of die-hard Sherlock fans have been complaining about this movie, noting that it's not quite true to the original. Oh no, Downey points out. According to him, it's more similar to Doyle's work than the commonly accepted pop culture notions of the pipe-and-hat sleuth. Quote from HitFix: "My take is what the puritans would expect. Some of
the most surprising things are that oft-associated props never appeared in the
novels or short stories. [Holmes] never wore a dearstalker cap, except maybe
once, and even then it was described differently," star Robert Downey,
Jr., begins to describe. It's interesting to note the references to the vibes between Watson and Sherlock. Well, I think they just want to make the audience curious by referring to it vaguely as 'circumstantial homosexuality'. You know, get folks talking and all that. However, it does mean that there will be plenty of snarky arguments and one-liners between Watson and Sherlock, which will certainly help the movie forward. Oh and of course, there is the hyped up romance between Sherlock and Adler. Seems like the director has put in a bit of effort there. Rachael Adams sounds pretty pleased with her contribution to the movie. The movie also seems more action-packed than the older ones. That just might be the way to go – after all, slower-paced movies are a thing of the past now. |
