You heard about the great uproar about the Diddy Combs link to the Tupac Shakur Shooting, now hear this one. That whole LA Times story of “Combs knew about Shakur ambush” might just be big bag of nonsense. ; At least according to a
compelling article by The Smoking Gun.
TSG has written an in-depth and well argued article about the LA Times expose on Diddy's link to Shakur's death. Basically, they claim that the Times were fooled by a con artist, someone who also might have forged the FBI documents used as a source.
Apparently, the man in question is called James Sabatino and, judging from some of the mismatching claims from his side, he just might be a bit delusional.
Here are some interesting points of TSG article:
- The FBI docs (302s) referred to in the Times article are nowhere to be found on FBI database
- The 302s might have been written on typewriter; reality check – FBI agents stopped using them years ago. Coincidentally, it has spelling errors similar to those made in other documents submitted by Sabatino.
- Sabatino also claims he was supposed to meet Christopher Wallace on the night of his murder in 1997. According to TSG:
While he enjoys repeating the "theory" that he mysteriously bailed on a planned meeting with the rapper that fateful night, Sabatino was actually 2400 miles away from the crime scene. He was imprisoned in Miami's Federal Detention Center, where he still had six months to serve on a two-year sentence for separate felony convictions
Apparently, after reading evidence provided by TSG, LA Times is going to launch its own probe into the truth of the FBI docs. I would hope so; their reputation would be at stake here. And if it was false, Diddy Combs might take it up with them for defamation.
Update: What do you know! Associated Press reports that
LA Times apologizes for Shakur Story.
