Movie News

How about a bit of movie news to start a Monday?

First off, updates on Star Trek, the exciting new project of  J.J. Abrams.

EW recently featured posters for the space craze bonanza. Pictures consisting of Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine.

Die hard fans can mull over it and decide if they love or maybe love it to bits.

I must admit, I was eager to catch glimpses of Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Paul McGillion (that's Dr. Beckett in the Gateworld). Maybe next time.

For hi-res pictures and a trailer, check out the official site here.

And now for Mummy news, the good kind and not the Madonna-Britney sort.

A third installment of The Mummy franchise is all set and ready to make a leap. It goes under the rather lengthy name - The Mummy:The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Don't be put off by the corny name. Check out the trailer and give it a shot. It looks an enjoyable action flick without over-the-top gore. You know, something you can finally watch with your teen kids without complaining about the good old days of clean behavior.

This one might be a bit off the tangent compared to the other two; it's directed by Rob Cohen, the man behind the action packed xXx. And Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh are both starring in this flick. How's that for attention grabbing?

And fans of Rachel Weisz might not wanna book tickets. Yes, she's not back to be mommy to Fraser's kid in this movie. Am not entirely sure what's up there but looks like he picks up some other woman along the way.

And to finish off, X Files: I want to believe ...

I do, I really do want to believe but as a ex- X Files fan, I am in two minds about this movie.

It's meant to be a "stand-alone story unconnected to the series' ongoing conspiracy thread". Furthermore, co-writer and producer Frank Spotnitz had this disappointing insight into the plot:

"We're not doing an exercise in nostalgia to appeal to the fans of the show ... We saw this as an opportunity to introduce the characters to people who may have been too young . . . It has a reason for being, even if there'd never been a television show before."

A bit sad, considering it is the die-hard fans who keep a series alive way after it is over. If you don't believe me, ask the Jericho or Invasion fans.

I know plenty of teens from the younger generations who are avid X Files fans; they buy the box sets, some of them even dress up in the Mulder attire, there are lengthy arguments about the X Files storyline.

So keep an eye for Mulder and Scully movie but for the fanatic X Filer,  I do say, you've been warned.
