Back in the day when I was a wee little lassie, back when kids used to visit the library regularly, I came across Jules Vernes' Journey to the Center of the Earth. Of course it was a kiddy favorite; well, it certainly beat the dribbly horror and romance stories dumped on children these days.
So, when I saw that there was going to be a new movie coming out, gallantly called Journey to the Center of the EarthI was both curious and wary. Will it make it or break it? Will it join other lukewarm efforts or rise to the occasion?
Oh and for those who love effects and animated action bits, do add "3d" to the end of the title, making it the enigmatic Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D!! Just so you know that there is lots of special effects which equals being chased by slobbering beast that aren't quite there when Brendan Fraser does the scream-and-run but seems to head sraight for you on the big screen, as if you were the next McDino meal. I checked out one or two trailers. The phrase reserve judgment leaps to mind at this point. Sure, the dinosaurs look fantastic, the background is superb and the adventure sounds compelling ... I'm just not sure about the comic relief bits. It had some chuckle-worthy moments but I honestly hope Brendan Fraser won't be doubling as Jungle George for the whole duration of the movie. You know he can be classy with clever wit; The first Mummy wasn't so bad. In fact it was one of his better comic roles. Well, Vernes fans will probably hate it but on the other hand, the movie might rekindle interest in the classic. Either way keep an eye out for this sci-fi flick which is set for July 11 release. |
